The Ipi and Yoí myth
This is the myth of the creation of the world according to the Tikuna tribe/clan in the Colombian and Brazilian Amazon Jungle:
At the beginning there was a enormous tree that prevented the world from getting sunlight. Ipi and Yoí, the first humans, tried to cut down the tree and with the help of all animals they cut the trunk. Yet the tree didn't fall down so Ipi and Yoí send the Squirrel to the top of the tree to find out why this was so. The Squirrel found that a Gigantic Sloth hanging from the moon was holding the tree and didn't allow it to fall down. The Squirrel tried to convince the Sloth to let it go but he didin't want to, so the Squirrel gave him red hot chilies and they were so hot that he finally let it go. The enormous tree fell and its trunk and branches created the great Amazon River where humans and animals could at last live and procreate...
